As discussed in an earlier articles there are three steps to creating a website. 1. Pick a domain Name 2. Pick a Web Hosting Service 3. Create the Site
You have picked a domain name and a web hosting service. Now we will explain how to create your web site.
First you need to develop a Website Plan. Answer these questions and you will be going in the right direction.
WHO is your target audience?
What age group? Put yourself in your customer's shoes and think like they would. Check out similar sites and see how they appeal to your targeted market. Do you see things they doing that you like. Good, incorporate similar ideas into your site. See things you can improve on. Good, do it!
WHAT are you going to say?
Your content is the most important part of your site and most time-consuming part of the project. List all information you have. Don't forget to include all photos, charts, and everything else you have. Don't have enough? Do some research and develop content where you are light on information. We suggest you get comfortable with Notepad. Save all info as .txt.
WHEN do want to start using your site and how often do you plan on updating it?
WHY are you developing a Website?
To sell services or products? To create a presence for your new business? Your Website Plan is not cast in concrete. It is dynamic and should be updated as you learn more about your Internet business.
Now you need to take that plan and implement it.
There are essentially four options, depending on how custom a site you want and how much you are willing to learn.
1. Choose a web package design for novices.
Look for a package that includes many templates that you will enjoy using. The template will reflect you and your product so try to look good even on a shoestring budget.
2. Choose a more complex web design package
If you use this you will have to learn some HTML. But the upside is you can design it anyway you desire.
3. Out source the programming. If you don't want to learn any HTML and you do have the funds for a professional try to find one on the internet who will do it for you.
4. Hire a professional web design company to create your dream site. More often businesses will find this attractive. If you want sophisticated features such as order taking capabilities this is a good way to go.
You now have a hosted website. You need to test it, promote it and maintain it.
Our upcoming articles will explain different programs and tools to enhance your site and increase your money making possibilities.
